New materials like electrically conductive threads and fabrics let you build things like light-up bracelets, shirts that sing when you’re squeezed, and purses that sound alarms when someone touches them.
This workshop is designed to introduce educators to the tools and technologies that make these projects possible. We will work through two hands on projects and discuss how electronic textiles (or “e-textiles”) can be blended into science, art, and engineering curricula. We will discuss how e-textiles can be used to attract women to STEM fields. We will also survey available resources–including materials and tools, online communities, tutorials, and support forums–that enable educators to employ e-textiles in their classrooms or after school programs.
